About The Property

Little Owl is your Pacific Northwest cabin fantasy. 20 minutes from Mt. Rainier National Park, White Pass Ski Area, and some of the most breathtaking hiking on the West Coast. Amenities include a cedar soaking hot tub, WiFi, Weber gas grill, top notch cookware, hi-fi sound system, A/C & heat via mini split, deck and balcony. We're just 2.5 scenic hrs from Seattle and Portland, and we're dog-friendly. Our cabin is immediately adjacent to National Forest land, and just yards from Coal Creek. We're 5 miles from the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. There is a king bed in the upstairs loft. Downstairs, we have a bunked twin above a queen, and a comfortable day bed in the living room. You're also welcome to camp on the deck. There's a half bathroom in the loft and a full bathroom downstairs. Our kitchen is fully appointed: Appliances, pots, pans, utensils, coffeemakers (drip and french press), milk frother, kettle, Vitamix and burr grinder. We also have a gas grill on the deck. In the winter, you're welcome to use our wood stove. Small children are not allowed in the upstairs loft or on the bunk bed. We try to combine the best features of our personal hotel and Airbnb stays as we design our cabins and your guest experience. For us, that means we're sitting silently on the sidelines until you need us. We'll make sure you have everything you need to locate our cabin and get comfortable with minimal fuss. You don't need to contact us about your arrival or departure times, and likewise, we won't be checking in with you unless it seems helpful or necessary. We assume you'd rather just get on with the business of relaxing and enjoying our home than swap messages with us. If you're good with that arrangement, we'd love to host you! Our cabin has an off-the-grid feel, but with all the on-the-grid amenities. We're in a vacation home community, but we have plenty of privacy, and our deck and hot tub back up to National Forest land. Exceptional hiking, skiing and wineries are all within 15 mins to 1.5 hours by car. Some of our guests express surprise or mild disappointment about our proximity to neighbors. We're not off-the-grid. We like our cabin for the fact that it offers the best features of grid and off-grid life: It's adjacent to forever wild National Forest, but near enough to the grid to have zippy broadband Internet, flush toilets, and adequate electric service to heat a hot tub, power a range, etc. That said, if you're looking for a truly remote, fully isolated cabin, this probably isn't your place. We include a map and detailed driving directions in our guest book, which we will share with you when you complete your booking.

Little Owl Cabin

Packwood, Washington5 Properties

We own and operate this thing called “Little Owl Cabin.” It started around 2006, in New York City of all places. Val was an affordable housing developer in the South Bronx; Ryan was a public policy consultant, designing and managing resource conservation programs. We used to take lots of trips to ski mountains and National Parks, back when VRBO was Almighty and Airbnb was a scrappy startup. As often as possible, we stayed in vacation rentals. We were spending too much time in boring hotels on
